Do you like our new outfit? That’s right, we’ve changed our packaging! Why is this such a big deal? Our new containers are made of plant-based fibers, meaning they’re now compostable. They’re also 100% plant-derived, allergen-free (including 100% gluten-free), GMO-free and non-toxic.
Why Compostable Packaging?
We’ve always been about giving back to the greater good here at Snap Kitchen. We regularly donate all unsold food to local charities in each market but also understand that our customers are conscious of their environmental impact as are we. By switching over to compostable, eco-friendly packaging we’ve taken a big step in reducing our environmental impact. Just how big of a step?
- By making this switch, we estimate that we are reducing our use of plastic by 500,000 lb
- The change to compostable trays will reduce Snap Kitchen’s carbon emissions from packaging manufacturing by 66%
- We are able to make five plant-fiber compostable containers with the same energy it took to make one petroleum plastic container
We’ve partnered with World Centric, a socially conscious manufacturer, for our new compostable containers. World Centric donates 25% of its profits to grassroots social and environmental programs nationwide.
Our new containers align more closely with our mission as a company and our commitment to healthy, real food. It’s just one of a few new changes here at Snap aimed to offer you high-quality food that doesn’t compromise when it comes to flavor or ingredients. And we’re hard at work to offer you more variety, too. We hope you love these changes as much as we do.
What should you expect?
Our containers are now oven AND microwave safe (but be sure to remove the lid for oven cooking!). Speaking of lids, ours are still 100% recyclable, BPA free and dishwasher safe. The containers don’t need to be washed before composting; in fact, moisture and food will help accelerate the composting process. The containers will compost in 60-120 days and can be easily discarded in a compost bin or included in your conventional garbage as they contribute zero toxicity to the environment.
