What is the keto-friendly meal plan?
Our keto-friendly meal plan centers around 30 grams of net carbs per day. What are net carbs? They’re calculated by subtracting fiber from total carbs (total carbs-fiber=net carbs).
We’re calling this meal plan ‘keto-friendly’ since the carbohydrate guidelines (30g net carbs/day) may not be appropriate for every person hoping to get into ketosis. Additionally, the plan isn’t appropriate for those with specific diagnoses (like epilepsy, for example) who need to be on a therapeutic ketogenic diet. Our carbohydrate guidelines are low enough that the plan will work for many people currently following a ketogenic lifestyle, or for those just looking to explore very low carbohydrate eating.
Our keto-friendly meal plan is dietitian-curated to focus on very low carb meals. The best part? You can make it work for you by customizing each day. Want to skip breakfast and intermittent fast. Or maybe add some avocado to your lunch? Totally doable. We know that one size doesn’t fit all, so our plans don’t assume that either. They give you the flexibility to mix & match for your needs.
What can I eat?
Plenty of non-starchy veggies, healthy fats, meats, eggs and fish. Think of meals that are full of flavor but light on carbs, like our naked salmon or romesco chicken. What should I expect or notice?
While everyone is different, results may include weight loss, increased energy, better cognition, improved sleep and improved blood sugars. And that hangry feeling? Consider it banished. If you’re new to very low carb eating, you may experience the ‘keto flu’, with symptoms like headache, cramps or irritability. Always consult your doctor if you’re concerned, but there are a few things you can do to feel better: stay hydrated, avoid strenuous exercise, replace electrolytes (like potassium, magnesium and sodium), get adequate sleep, and make sure you’re eating enough fat.
