How We Give Back

November 28, 2018

One of our core values at Snap Kitchen is giving back to the community. We believe that convenient, healthy meals should be available for everyone- including those in need. That’s why daily we donate our unsold food to non-profit food recovery programs in each of our markets. This year alone, we’ve donated close to 600,000 meals to these organizations.

But our desire to give back doesn’t stop there. Throughout the month of December, we’ll be donating a portion of our gift card sales to our community partners in each market.

Who are these amazing partners that are doing so much for our communities? Scroll down to learn more.

Keep Austin Fed

Keep Austin Fed’s mission is to reduce hunger and help the environment by connecting surplus food with neighbors in need. This year alone Keep Austin Fed is on pace to get the equivalent of over 600,000 meals to our neighbors who don’t have ready access to or the resources to afford healthy food. KAF currently partners with over 50 other charitable organizations in Austin to provide wholesome surplus food that would otherwise go to waste.

Second Servings

Second Servings is Houston’s only prepared and perishable food rescue organization. They pick up unserved and unsold food from regulated food businesses and deliver it the same day to more than 60 approved charity sites- serving over 135,000 people. This food helps nourish abused women and children, at-risk youth, veterans, adults in recovery, disabled homeless seniors, developmentally challenged adults, low-income single adults, and many others. In under 4 years, they’ve rescued almost 2 million pounds of food valued at about $10 million from more than 175 donors…food that was destined for the landfill but is now feeding people.

Hope City Dream Center

The Hope City Dream Center hopes to provide their community (in which 98% of families experience food insecurity) not only with food, but also educational opportunities, clothing, recovery & counseling. Since 2016 Hope City Dream Center, with the help of Snap Kitchen, has distributed over 35,000 lbs. of food & fed more than 175 people every month.

Food Connect Philly

One in four Philadelphians are food insecure with almost a third of households in enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs. There are an estimated 700 food pantries and soup kitchens throughout Philadelphia, and nearly 90% of food pantries either ran out of food or had to provide less to those in need at some point during the year. Food Connect’s technology helps food rescue and hunger relief efforts in real time so surplus food can get to where it needs to go. They leverage smart technology to pool resources and make deliveries efficient. Altogether, the service moves over 500 meals a week to those in need.

Give the gift of Snap Kitchen and in turn help us continue to thank and support our partners by grabbing a gift card from any retail location this holiday season. Happy giving!
